#TomasCursl is real

Tomas-Hertl

Some may say I’m bitter. Probably. December 19th, while I was in attendance, Tomas Hertl was murdered by known war criminal Dustin Brown. Dustin Brown strapped on his steel kneepads and took out our angel, our rookie, our Calder candidate. Now that Tomas is gone, along with half of the Sharks due to injuries, and the Sharks are still finding a way to win games. Good for them. I’m not here to talk about them. I’m here to talk about the ancient Czechoslovakian curse that was cast upon the Los Angeles Kings. The Los Angeles Kings used to be good, but now they are not. While this is comforting, this does not bring back Tomas Hertl. It’s still pretty funny though. Now I’m going to explore stats from the fifteen Kings’ games before Hertl died and the fifteen Kings’ games post-mortem.

Goals & Goals Against

In the 15 games BHD (before Hertl died), the Kings had scored 40 goals, which gave them an average of 2.67 goals per game. In the 15 games AHD (after Hertl died), the Kings have scored 29 goals, which gives them an average of 1.93 goals per game. The offense BHD was pretty good, they seemed to have some consistency and it got them the wins. The offense AHD has been struggling and the goals scored per game has decreased…. a lot. BHD, the Kings’ defense and goaltending (we will talk more about goaltending later) was stellar. In the 15 games BHD, the Kings allowed only 21(!!!) goals, which gave them an average of 1.4 goals against per game. In the 15 games AHD, the Kings have given up 39 goals, which gives them an average of 2.6 goals against per game. Their goals against per game has gone up 1.2.

In the 15 games BHD, the Los Angeles Kings’ power play was just plain awful. In 48 power play opportunities, the Kings scored 4 goals, and their PP% was 8.3%. In the 15 games AHD, the Los Angeles’ Kings power play is still pretty bad. In 55 power play opportunities, the Kings scored 7 goals, and their PP% is 12.7%. Although the power play is still crappy, the Kings have had 7 more PP opportunities and have scored 3 more goals AHD.

Winner: Los Angeles Kings

In the 15 games BHD, the Kings were amazing on the penalty kill, which is usually a normal occurrence. Their opponents had 57 attempts on the power play and only scored 5(!!!) times, which gave them a PK% of 91.2%. In the 15 games AHD, the Kings have fallen back down to earth. Their opponents have had 57 attempts on the power play and have scored 12 times, which gives them a PK% of 78.9%. A decrease of 12.3%. LOLOLOL

In the 15 games BHD, the Los Angeles Kings had stupidly amazing goaltending. The Kings’ goaltenders only allowed 21(!!!) goals on 449 shots(!!!), which gave them a save percentage of 95.32%. In those 15 games, the Kings had also shutout their opponents 4(!!!) times. In the 15 games AHD, the Kings goaltending got pretty stupid. The Kings’ goaltenders have allowed 39 goals on 409 shots, which gives them a save percentage of  90.47%. The Kings have shutout their opponents once. Although their shots allowed has decreased, their goals against increased and the save percentage declined by 4.85%.
